Head of Comms / Kaiwhakahaere whakapā
Restoring mauri to the Hauraki Gulf / Tīkapa Moana / Te Moananui ā-Toi
Long-term contract role 1-3 days per week.
- Be part of a bold, impactful environmental restoration project.
- Storytelling through long-form, social media and multimedia.
- Core comms for the kaupapa and working with mana whenua on projects.
Green-lipped mussel reefs once dominated the Hauraki Gulf – before they were all dredged out for consumption in the first half of the 20th Century. The Revive Our Gulf project is working in partnership with mana whenua to bring the mussel reefs back.
We’re looking for an experienced comms specialist (5+ years work experience) who can further develop the core messaging around our kaupapa, as well as work with our mana whenua partners to tell project specific stories. Whether you come from a journalism, marketing comms, science comms or PR background, you’ll have excellent writing skills; from long-form articles to media releases to short punchy copy for social media and web. You’ll also be a master at adapting your style for different audiences. You won’t have to do everything, so you’ll need to have experience at managing external contractors and freelancers. Knowledge of te reo Māori and tīkanga Māori is important in this role, so ideally you’re a reo Māori speaker (to intermediate level) – or you’re somewhere on that reo journey.
This is a long-term project and we see this role growing from a solid day per week to around 3-4 days per week in the next 18-24 months.
