Originally from Australia, Katina has called Aotearoa New Zealand home for over 16 years.
With a background in government and policy, Katina has worked across complex public sector environments and brings experience in convening diverse groups around shared challenges.
As Kaihautū of Revive Our Gulf, Katina’s role is to create the conditions for successful partnerships and restoration. She focuses on bringing together Tangata Whenua, science, community, and sector collaborators, supporting the relationships, systems, and shared understanding needed to make meaningful, long-term progress possible.
As Tangata Tiriti (always aspiring), Katina is committed to working in ways that honour Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and to supporting approaches where Mana Whenua leadership are central to restoration. She holds a strong belief that, together, people can turn the tide for the Hauraki Gulf and its inhabitants.
Favourite marine species
Seabirds – all of them! for the way they connect the moana and whenua and carry the story of both.
Favourite marine habitat
As an Australian, I have to say coral reefs, and as a New Zealander, I have to say the mussel reef – because it’s complex, elusive and fundamental to the health and functioning of our moana!
