Laurie is a Trustee with the Ngāi Tai ki Tāmaki Trust, serving as kaitiaki of Umupuia Marae and is instrumental in championing Ngāi Tai’s Waiora kaupapa.
As a Treaty Negotiator for Ngāi Tai ki Tāmaki, Lauire played a pivotal role in the iwi achieving settlement in 2021. Laurie nurtures a deep kinship with the moana – having spent many years working as a commercial fisherman, he is a skipper and maintains a deep curiosity in Ngāi Tai ki Tamaki’s aquaculture endeavours.
