Mervyn serves Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei as poutaki lead, guiding mahi on the whenua with cultural and environmental leadership. As an active kaitiaki, he has inspired and taught hundreds of rangatahi about the environment. His leadership extends across Tāmaki Makaurau, where he has led projects such as the Wynyard Quarter Rain Gardens and ecological restoration at Pourewa.

Mervyn also serves as a current member of the Auckland Conservation Board, bringing his deep knowledge, passion, and commitment to the protection and restoration of te taiao.
