Strengthening ocean policy is crucial to supporting enduring restoration.
Revive Our Gulf engages with local councils and central government agencies to advocate for effective policy that supports the protection and restoration of the Hauraki Gulf.
While progress has been made, significant barriers remain. Further change is needed to ensure restoration efforts can be delivered at the scale and pace required to rebuild kūtai reefs and restore the health of the Gulf.
The Hauraki Gulf was once carpeted with billions of mussels, filtering the entire volume of water in the Firth of Thames in a single day. Bringing back these mussel reefs is key to improving the mauri, or life-force, of the Gulf.
